Also known as Cow Vetch or Bird Vetch; a common species of vetch native throughout most of North America, Europe and Asia. It occurs in grassy fields, meadows and roadside ditches.
Good forage crop for cattle, enriches the soil by its nitrogen-fixing properties. Tufted Excellent source of nectar for bees and butterflies, and many birds are fond of the seeds.
Owners of pet birds such as Budgerigars often use Tufted Vetch as a nutritious food; the but may also eat the foliage.
Useful as a cover crop and source of green manure as well as it may be used to curb erosion, because tends to crowd out other plants.
