Artist's Description

Used for decoration and making herbal tea and in some places held as a sign of good luck or good fortune. Perhaps it was for Thomas Edison when Henry Ford presented his friend who experimented with making rubber from Solidago gigantea with a Model T on which the tires were made from Goldenrod rubber.

State Flower of Kentucky, Nebraska and South Carolina; used to be the State Flower of Alabama but was later rejected in favor of the Camellia.

Elsewhere, in uncontrolled locations Goldenrod is considered to be just an aggressive weed whose appearance signals rather bad, not good luck…
