Pink Lady Slipper - Study

Cypripedium acaule study in preparation to paint it in color.
The orchid known as Pink Lady’s Slipper, Two-leaved Lady’s Slipper or Moccasin Flower occurs in the eastern third of the United States and northwards into Canada, up to very close to the arctic circle.
The model of this painting was a single specimen of the exceedingly rare albino mutant found in New Jersey, USA. in a massive Pink Lady’s Slipper population.

Cypripedium acaule is protected in many of its habitats in the United States and Canada; transplanting specimens from the natural habitats into gardens usually unsuccessful.
