Amissos - Light in the Tomb by

Interior view of a king’s tomb from ancient Amissos, probably from around 300 b.c.e. It is one of two tumuli situated on a dramatic hill overlooking the Black sea. The tomb is open to the public in Samsun, Turkey, the interior is dramatically lit.

Amissos was part of the Amazon women’s homeland according to ancient Greek historians, but the official description on the tomb says a king was buried there. The bones remain in the back part of the chamber.
