Antebellum Autumn at Emerson House, Ironton, 1986
Beyond any local budget in this rural Missouri town where a 20-minute battle left more than 1000 dead, renovations for civil war-era Judge Emerson House and long-time residence for Ste. Marie du Lac Catholic Church, were appraised at $85k when I did this shortly before the structure was razed in 1988. The hugh, green cedar at right was laid out flat towards us across the duck pond (obscured by the stone wall in foreground) by a tornado in 2004. The gazebo and white statue with its island survive, the razed residence now a grassy lawn. Chosen as a Feature selection for the Christian Churches, Statues and Crosses Group at redbubble.com, November, 2009.
Watercolor with India Ink on Waterford 200 lb. cold press watercolor paper, 14” x 21”. Original, shipped unframed, $1100.
