Double feature in the group "Untouched"

Posted 1 day ago

This is a very cool feature for me because each capture is from a completely different set of skills. On one hand, my photo titled “Ducati Racer” captured at Summit Point Raceway, shows a perfect Zen Moment in time. I need a perfect balance of shutter speed, aperture, focal range, lighting and the ability to pan in order to capture this moment. Everything just blended so well for this photo. On…

"Habanero" featured in "Fuji Fine"

Posted 5 days ago

When I started photographing folks at the Union Street Pub, I used the manager’s Canon DSLR. It’s output was great but, I had to use my own camera for the duration.
I was using Fuji bridge camera’s as my start into digital photography at the time. I did not want to use my S100fs or S9100 in the bar so, I did a month of research to fine the right camera. I chose the Fuji S6000fd. It has the b…

"Eternal Guard" featured in "JPG Cast-Offs"

Posted 8 days ago

When I visit Arlington Cemetery, it’s a must to capture the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The guards are now wearing their winter clothing and the background isn’t so green but, it is brilliant all the same. I had 21 seconds to frame, focus and get the shot. I glad that I nailed the composition perfectly and the exposure and bokeh is superb. This Olympus combination of E-1 and 40-150mm lens work…

"Memorial at Night 4" featured in "Untouched"

Posted 8 days ago

I took my little Olympus C-8080WZ digi cam out one night to the WWII memorial in Washington D.C. I always wanted to capture it’s beauty with the lights and fountains in a night setting. I set my aperture wide open, composed and let it time the exposure. I used an ISO of 50 for all of my exposures. I was stunned by how beautiful all of the exposures were!!!! They were all perfectly timed by the …

"Marine Tribute" featured in "Photography 101"

Posted 9 days ago

This day started out fine until I got turned around in the wrong direction and had to double back to the Iwo Jima Memorial. I mounted the 14-45mm lens on the E500 and the 40-150mm on the E-1 for this shoot. It was sunny but partially cloudy so the sun would poke out every once in awhile. Here I was snapping away with the E-1 as tour bus after tour bus rolled in and out of the area. Folks would …

"Casual Reader" featured in "Fuji Fine"

Posted 9 days ago

When usually wait until I get topside from the metro station to get my camera gear ready. While I was loading my batteries, I noticed this lady reading her book. Once everything was ready, I flipped up my LCD screen, dialed in at 400mm and composed this capture. I like the fact that you can see the flags waving in the breeze from the Washington Monument along with the natural surroundings. I li…

Double feature in the group "The Photographer in Action"

Posted 13 days ago

On my photo days at the National Mall in Washington D.C., I’m always on the look out for a unique candid opportunity. With these two captures, my subject was a photographer in the process of creating their art. Each one has a different style that was fun and a unique challenge to capture in the moment. I was also using 35mm film for each of these captures so, I couldn’t see the outcome until my…

"Top Shelf" featured in "Untouched"

Posted 13 days ago

I went to visit the Ducati Booth at last year’s International Motorcycle Show here in Washington D.C. The star of the show was the magnificent Desmosedici RR. I had to wait my turn to get in close for a photo capture. I had my little Fuji E900 at the time set on the natural light program. My point of interest for this capture was the front brake and suspension system. I was lucky because a smal…

"Take Cover" featured in "The Male Photographer"

Posted 16 days ago

I often overlooked this one relief artwork from the WWII Memorial. On this day I was shooting film around mid day and thought I’d give this one a try. I really like the play of shadow and highlight in this capture. The art shows soldier’s following behind a Sherman tank during the war. The Sherman makes for good cover when advancing toward the enemy during battle, as long as no Panzer’s were ar…

"Holding On" featured in "Photography 101"

Posted 17 days ago

I have photographed this statue many times during the year, always looking for a different angle to convey the emotion that it evokes. With film, it’s fun sometimes to not know how an image will turn out. At other times, that anticipation can turn into sadness when you see your results. With this roll of film, the outcome was beyond my expectations. I used my favorite lens and shot at f2.8 for …
