I stood breathless behind the door – absolutely, totally, silent.
I was being as still as possible and barely breathing. All my hair stood on end. I could swear that it could hear me, how the hell couldn’t it? My heartbeat was so loud that you could have heard it from a mile away. My throat and mouth were so dry that my body screamed for me to cough or at least lick my lips. No way in hell could I even risk the possibility of disturbing the air.
My nerves shot pain into my head that almost blinded me, but I could see what the warning was for. A cold breeze so small that a falling feather would disturb it, had begun to creep over my toes, the thick dust spiraled around my feet.
A shadow flicked briefly past the wall.
All I wanted to do was scream until my throat was ripped clean out. My mind was telling me to run, just run, doesn’t matter where just run! My brain was trying to translate this into movement but my body wouldn’t let me. Every limb fought to move but my muscles were so tense I swear they were made of lead.
A tear ran down my face. I realized I wasn’t blinking.
The door creaked. It was like a nuclear bomb exploded in my eardum.
Rust floated off the hinge mingling in the breeze.
That was it. It was here I knew it. If I didn’t move, I would be found. And if I did move then I had no chance.
The landlord was here.
Still.
fire coming out of the monkeys head provoked my thoughts, this is what resulted.
