Public Faces

Public Faces

Conte Crayon on paper. This one is inspired by my favourite work, “Collins Street at 5 pm” by John Brack. I was thinking of Flinders Street/ Spencer Street Stations when I drew this. I just used to get lost in the human sea of faces that use to flow up and down Melbournes Streets and they conjured up all sorts of feelings and emotions.

Public Faces belongs to the following groups:

All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical, Art from the Workplace, Behind the Mask and The Urban Environment Available for sale as

This piece is wonderful. I love multi-dimensional work with a message. This otherworldly abstract has an important message about how people present false selves in public. Unfortunately this also occurs in intimate relationships that often are constructed to avoid attachment and genuine love. Your graphic representation of this concept is outstanding. I look forward to seeing more of your amazing work. I also see many faces in my abstract photography using nature’s elements like bark, rocks, plants etc. that feels like I am painting with my camera. I love the powerful impression your exceptionally imaginative and creative artwork.

Thanks Julie, you have expressed feelings that I too associate with the work.

This is a clever concept, and so true. Many people are putting on a mask in public hiding their true selves: their secrets or their darkness. They either want to look good in front of the public, or hide their problems in order not to worry those around them. Sometimes the well known public places with the most people are actually places where people feel most lost; even if they are not literally lost. Thay may know where they are, but they don’t know where their heart it.

I love this for the way its surface and depth of meaning contrast: seemly join with both a naked simplicity and hidden profound clarity. The norm of masking. The facade of social faces bought and sold.

  • C.C. Arshagra

    C.C. Arshagra

It also brings to mind that ago old unsettled resolve of a cliché. “Its not personal, it’s business. You understand.” (?) You have capture a truth exposed here—and here it is very well done!
