after the fire...after the rain...Regeneration.

I had deliberated over uploading this photograph for sometime..I don’t expect it to ‘go well’ – But just like to add it to the series for some balance.

Five weeks after the devastating Gippsland bushfires passed through this particular area (still burning on a large scale to the north and east) A surface trough brought some welcome rain and thunderstorms on the ranges. It was not too long after this that the sheer brilliance of the Australian ‘bush’ came to life…Here in this rainforest gully I had been unsure to it’s ability to recovery. Perhaps the fire’s intensity at this point was not as ‘hot’ as other areas. What ever the reasoning my repeat visits to this gully over the ensuing months saw the most wonderful transition.

This beautiful photograph speaks to me of hope and not just survival, but of re-birth. I find it very emotionally impactful. I am so glad you did upload it, it is one of the most poignant images in the collection.

Our forests are truly amazing in their ability to come back after such a devastating fire, but that is nature. Unfortunately, they do not come back so well after being devastated by man.
The Velvia has handled the contrast and colours well for you. A wonderful shot.
