West Macdonnell Ranges - Northern Territory
A deadset freezing morning with temperatures around the -2C mark made this pre-dawn scree slope scramble and shoot a little bit cold for my liking… But with a vista such as this one that I had sourced out the previous day how could I say no to the opportunity before me ?

Hi Tony,
I always thought that Albert Namatjira paintings with mauve tones were false. Having now been there we all know he was true to life
Tony Middleton replied
hi Joe,
You are dead right, I had seen work from there before also and thought the colours had been pumped up etc… but it’s to be witnessed to believed I guess :)
cheers,
Caroline Gorka
I remember going to Alice a couple of years ago, and seeing that amazing soft light in the evening …just wish I’d taken up photography then !
Lovely :)
Tony Middleton replied
hi Caz,
yeah it is pretty awesome and it’s just another good reason to go back some time.. :)

Glorious Tony, oh, how I wish I was there!! Cold temperatures and all!! Fantastic photography and capture!! :))
Tony Middleton replied
hi Vicki,
YeahI wish I was there for those gorgeous rugged ochre tones landscapes without a doubt… not so keen on temps colder than where I live though – lol :)

Tony Middleton replied
hi Andrew,
cheers mate and yes I shot this on my fuji G617 with velvia 50. I still LOVE shooting the old girl even though I have a 5D2 as well these days. :)

May have been freezing but those gorgeous tones and light are warming me up…..lovely work !
Tony Middleton replied
very true Varinia – I still look at those lovely warm tones and think – what the hell ? – it was freezing -2 ! I’m just not used to that association I guess.
thanks :)
elphonline
stunning shot.
Tony Middleton replied
thanks elph – much appreciated :)
John Kowalski
Brilliant view and shot Tony!!
Tony Middleton replied
I’m glad that you like this one John – I think outback/desert images connect with less people than other landscapes such as seascapes. Perhaps because more people have shot/seen the coast than the beautifully rugged interior ?
cheers,
Will Barton
Beautiful shot Tony. A part of the country I would love to explore.
Tony Middleton replied
hey Big-Will,
Cheers mate and I can not recommend enough that you get out there for a look and the experience. I can’t wait to do another trip myself. :)

Stunning image, love the colours in the sky contrasting with the ranges.
Tony Middleton replied
thanks Gypsy – I love the tones and rugged landscapes of central Australia. :)
