ghost gum
I recently had the priviledge of travelling through central Australia. I scouted out this composition the day before taking this shot. With my planned return the following day and the show exceeded all expectations in a display of desert light and beauty.Glowing in the twilight, a lone ghost gum stands starkly and majestically. The scene backdropped by the jaw dropping West Macdonnell ranges.
Fuji G617 – Velvia 50.

wstsiderose
yes its beautiful. I love the nature that surrounds it!
Tony Middleton replied
I’m glad you appreciate the entire scene Lisa – I too love it all. :)
Jared Revell
lovely shot Tony – like the tall, narrow cropping too, works well with this scene.
Tony Middleton replied
thanks Jared – I’m glad you like it :) This, like most of my work has no cropping. This one is shot on a 6×17 medium format camera. Not always the easiest to compose – but a joy to use.

Stunning.
Louise Cooke
you really have to hit the “view larger’ on this…it’s magic up big! Awesome Tony :)
Tony Middleton replied
Thanks Louise ! I find with the 6×17 (panoramic work) you really do need to view them larger as the thumbnails are proportionally very very small.
Jared Revell
ah..sorry Tony, didn’t realise. I can imagine this would have been difficult to frame with the panoramic – excellent work mate.
Tony Middleton replied
no need for apologies Jared :) I put camera & film types etc in my descriptions for people to understand, appreciate or learn.
happy shooting :)

Wonderfully unique aspect and the Velvia 50 has (as it does so well) captured the colour of the landscape well

love the photo tony .hope it dose not get as dry hear as it is there .reply to over the hill.
Geoff Coleman...
Unbelievable colours Tony – what an incredible display – the gradation from the deep red in the foreground through the almost translucent pink of the gum up to the sky is sensational – such an unusual and effective vertical pano.
Tony Middleton replied
thanks Geoff – I appreciate your indepth commentary.

Interesting overlap of two elements with the added flavor of the gum tree. Light, color DoF make it wonderful composition Tony.
