Gateway to St.Asaph- St.Asaph named as one of the three new Cities in Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Year

Bishop Dafydd built Pont Dafydd in 1630 to cross the Afon Clwyd and for two centuries it carried travellers to and from St Asaph

St Asaph Cathedral was the focus of the Church in North East Wales and this route linking with St Winifreds Well at Holywell was particularly important

Pont Dafydd was designed to carry people and horses but not the heavy loads of the industrial revolution

A stronger bridge was built in 1840 but when the river was diverted in 1969 to widen the A55 trunk road this pretty cobbled bridge was left high and dry…….. (until the heavy rains of this week which has seen water flowing beneath the bridge for the first time in many years)
