“George Osborne’s candour and judgment were called into question tonight after it was alleged he was personally involved in discussions to channel a £50,000 donation from Russia’s richest oligarch to the Conservative party.

Facing a barrage of questions today the Tory shadow chancellor was made to offer a detailed account of what happened when he met the tycoon Oleg Deripaska four times in a single weekend during his summer holiday in Corfu.

Osborne, who was backed tonight by his leader, David Cameron, was forced to admit he had been involved in a conversation at the villa of financier Nat Rothschild about the way a donation could be secured from Deripaska.”

and here’s a biography of james cameron, the conservative party leader-

David Cameron was born in London, but brought up at Peasemore, near Newbury, in the English county of Berkshire,[9] the son of stockbroker Ian Donald Cameron and his wife Mary Fleur Mount the second daughter of Sir William Mount, 2nd Baronet.[10] His father was born at Blairmore House near Huntly in Scotland,[11] which was built by Cameron’s grandfather Ewen Donald Cameron’s maternal grandfather Alexander Geddes12 who had made a fortune in the grain business in Chicago and had returned to Scotland in the 1880s.[13] The Cameron family were originally from the Inverness area of the Scottish Highlands.[14]

His father’s family had a long history in the world of finance: David Cameron’s great grandfather Arthur Francis Levita (brother of Sir Cecil Levita)[15] of Panmure Gordon stockbrokers and his great-great grandfather Sir Ewen Cameron,[14] London head of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank played key roles in discussions led by the Rothschilds with the Japanese central banker (later Prime Minister) Takahashi Korekiyo concerning the selling of war bonds during the Russo-Japanese war.[16]

His great grandfather Ewen Allan Cameron, a senior partner with Panmure Gordon stockbrokers was also a notable figure in the financial world serving on the Council for Foreign Bondholders17 and the Committee for Chinese Bondholders set up by the then Governor of the Bank of England Montagu Norman in November, 1935.[18] His grandfather Ewen Donald and father Ian Donald also worked for Panmure Gordon stockbrokers, his father also serving as a director of the estate agents John D Wood.[3]

Cameron is a direct descendant of King William IV (4th great grandfather) and his mistress Dorothea Jordan (and thus 5th cousin, twice removed of Queen Elizabeth II) through his father’s maternal grandmother Stephanie Levita.

Bullingdon Club

It was revealed in the Daily Mail on 7 April 2007 that whilst at Oxford, George Osborne had been a member of the Bullingdon Club, a notorious Oxford University dining club [7]. This had become a significant political issue after it was revealed that David Cameron had been a member of the club and that it was ‘infamous for “trashing” restaurants and other riotous behaviour’ and ‘is open only to sons of aristocratic families and the super-rich’.

cocaine allegations

In October 2005, Jennifer Shackleton, known to Osborne as Nathalie, produced a photograph of them at her flat in 1993 and claimed that they had taken cocaine together. In the photograph, published by the Sunday Mirror, the table in front of the pair holds rolled up papers and what appears to be a line of white powder, evidence of recent drug use according to Shackleton. Osborne denied the claims.[7] Labour MP Dennis Skinner was excluded from the House of Commons for claiming Osborne had taken cocaine8 (coining the much used ‘Boy George’ nickname in the process8). Osborne was running David Cameron’s bid to become party leader when the allegations surfaced. During that campaign Cameron was also accused of having taken cocaine. Shackleton was quoted as saying, “Osborne and Cameron have been trying to brush their pasts under the carpet, saying whatever they did in the past is not relevant. But I think it’s important they tell the truth.”

but hang on….

“On October 5 2008, the well informed Mandrake column in the Daily Telegraph disclosed that Peter Mandelson had, while he was the EC Commissioner, availed himself of Deripaska’s hospitality aboard his yacht the Queen K21 while she was anchored off Corfu. Mandelson’s spokesman Peter Power downplayed the encounter, saying it was a purely social occasion and that was the extent of Mandelson’s links with Deripaska. Subsequently Benjamin Wegg-Prosser, a former employee of Mandelson, appeared to contradict this when he said Mandelson had had a series of dinners earlier with Deripaska. This was of interest to the Conservative Opposition since Mandelson had as EC Commissioner been involved with fixing alumunium tariffs which clearly had an impact on Deripaska’s business activities.”

and no economic crisis for deripaska…
