Infinate Spiral

Kelly Griffin

Infinate Spiral

I found this unique looking plant at a park in San Francisco (Golden Gate Park, to be exact). I love not only the symmetry but the geometry of this plant and it’s uniqueness because I’ve never seen anything else like this. This photo was asked to be used in as the cover of a children’s science book in South America.

I didn’t use any Photoshop at all on this image. Just a tiny bit of Picasa! The plant is the same color as it appears in real life.

All I remember from the tiny sign is that it was some sort of aloe plant. It was near the entrance to Golden Gate Park – but when I go back I’ll be sure to look for it again!

Hi Kelly, the plant is an Aloe, Aloe polyphylla (meaning many leaved) from Lesotho. It is only found above 2000m. The local seSotho name for the plant Lekhala kharatsa which means ‘the aloe that is spiralled or coiled’. A truly amazing plant, i hope to see it one day in its natural habitat, great photo!!!
