Beauty, what does it mean? Does it mean to be skinny, because I don’t think so. Teens today put so much pressure on themselves to be a certain weight. We are all built differently and even if there is a tiny bit of flab we freak out and jump straight to the scale. I titles this "Scale Me" beause when you step on the scale you are being ranked and teens today face the fear of being ranked by their peers. One of the things they feel ranked on is weight. In my opinion, loving yourself is loving your whole self, not just whats on the inside but whats on the outside too. Friends of mine are always telling me how they need to loose weight and it’s hard when I’m as skinny as I am to relate in any way. I see people from the inside out, I try to put personality before weight or any physical features. If everyone could learn to do that the world would be a better, more accepting place. The sticky notes behind me say words like envy, judge, skinny, jealous, weight, friends, just words that have to do with this problem. There is no set defination of beauty so work what you have and love what you don’t.

Its very interesting that the definition of beauty changes from place to place, I have being discriminated for being skinny in the Latin culture where women are supposed to have meat on their bones, I just have thin bones. However, in the American culture women mostly just gossip about me for being skinny in real life, not here, this is an artistically accepted environment. In other words, either looking like JLO or Kate Moss there is always going to be a place in the world that will not accept you for who you are, its up to us to accept ourselves for who we are and be confident with what we are blessed with and thankful. Great work, its though provoking.

  • aww well i agree 100% beauty comes in all different shapes and sizes!!!
