~ Take from me my pen ~

Take from me my pen
and I shall mourn as though love is lost
as though my bed lay empty

Take from me my pen
and I shall be stripped of my very soul
left flailing where no love can tempt me

In a world where night and day both draw a line
disabling one from entering the other
where broken dreams are buried deep
in the heart of every lover
I must take my pen so true and treasured
and delve into a realm fit for no sobriety
and find within all the hope imagination brings
and paint with ink a blessed fantasy

Take from me my pen
and I shall fall at your feet
a vessel void of life and passion

Take from me my pen
and place a knife unto my breast
if such malice be your weapon

For to walk the path of this life called Mine
would neither bring me peace, purpose nor happiness
if the ink within my heart and soul
can never be found, brought to light, given, or spent…

A writer’s fear… Well, mine at least…

Writer’s block; no time to write; interruptions; distractions; frustrations; fears; insecurities; doubts… so on and etc… often come to steal my voice and I have to struggle to take me pen back, a lot…

Poem competition:

ink, pen, poetry, poet, writer

I take photos. I write. I sing & dance. Ok, I DON’T sing & dance. Not in public, anyway; & usually 2 my own beat. But I have fun, & that makes life a little more tolerable -for me. Maybe not 4 my kids. But, hey, if they can’t laugh at their mum then they’re probably the only ones who aren’t. So turn up the music & let’s boogie! (Do they still boogie these days? Gosh, I’m getting old. Best be careful not 2 throw a hip while throwing a leg!)

Wow .. that is what I call passion. This one gave me goosebumps. Great work Donna.
I might write one called ‘Take me from my keyboard’ !! or ‘Take me from my camera’
Being without my camera would give me withdrawal symptoms big time !

  • Yes, I thought the “pen” could be replaced with what the reader was passionate about. :) I’d be like that at sunset if I didn’t have my camera with me. :) Thank you SO much for your wonderful response, Michael! :D It’s greatly appreciated, my friend. xxx

was thinking about this very thing today only with my eyes and a viewfinder, Seriously!

    Wonderful work my friend!

  • What’s the odd, huh! ;) Well, with us, it seems highly likely we had similar thoughts! :) And I can understand how you’d feel… Actually, losing sight would be far worse than losing my “voice”, I reckon… Thank you ever so much for your great response, Larry. {{{hug}}} xxx

No writer’s block for you when you can pen such classical verse. I can picture this being delivered as a monologue by one of the great Shakespearean actors. Fabulous Donna!

  • wow… What a great comment. {{{TONY}}} With all I am, Tony, I thank you! xxxx

You pen with beautiful ink the character of your heart… no leaves left to make the table any bigger than it need be. You have penned the poem of “a true poet’s heart” here and every poet worth their salt would recognize their own emotion in and from this. Simply beautiful and so poignant. Great writing here Donna.

  • What a humbling comment… You just stole my pen and rendered me speechless. :) {{{RUSS}}} Thank you… With all I am, I thank you. xxxx

  • Gee… I am so deeply honoured, Russell… So very honoured, indeed… THANK YOU!!! XXX
