My old friend, the Stanley No. 5 plane can still make a pile of shavings when called into service.
You could probably get the job done in a fraction of the time using a power jointer, but there’s something special about using hand tools and ‘feeling’ your way though a task.

I agree; and there’s great satisfaction in getting it set just right so that a long continuous smooth shaving of wood curls out of the plane with each stroke: neither ‘bitty bits’ nor ‘dig in and bind’! (I don’t often get that satisfaction :¬{ ) Lovely close-up!
