NewcastleGateshead Quayside By Night

The Newcastle and Gateshead Millennium Bridge (UK) with The Sage Music venue and The Tyne Bridge in the background.
This was one of a series of pics I took on first night shoot, I’d only had the camera a week or so and I’m really, really pleased with how this has turned out.

Fabulous one of the best I have seen! Well done

  • KevM replied

    Thanks Jackie,
there are plenty of pics taken from the exact same spot so your comments mean a lot to me.

The spot you are standing on to take this, I have stood there hundreds of times.

Great photograph Kev, the colours are gorgeous.

  • KevM replied

    Thanks David,
I’ve seen loads of pics taken from the same spot so I thought I had to try and re-create it. The weather was on my side, it was a very cool, still night. Taken the first time I ventured out with my dSLR with an aim to getting some good Tyne pics.

I’m hooked so I might see you there one dusk :-)

Hey mate, this is good, not done much night photography, If I did this I would be proud, I’m sure you are Kev…

  • KevM replied

    Thanks Jason,
considering this was from my first real ‘shoot’, I’m very proud of the reaction this pic is getting, both on RB and elsewhere.

THE best I’ve seen…..I live there and never seen one as good as this…well done!!

  • KevM replied

    Thanks,
I think a lot of it has to do with the near perfect night when I took it.

A really great shot as others have said. If you shot it in raw then try changing the white balance to tungsten as I find this sometimes gives a great look for night shots – the sky changes colour. Not sure if there is enough light in the sky to make a difference to this one but have a go and see what you think.

  • KevM replied

Thanks ‘tayforth’. I’ll certainly give that a try, I’ve had a quick look at your pics and I’m sure I can pick up plenty of tips from the standard of your landscapes. Thanks again.

Don’t do yourself down, your shot is a cracker. I just discovered the whie balance thing by accident and it works a treat on the right image.

I meant “underestimate yourself” rather than “do yourself down” :-)

Fabulous shot…love the way you have such defined reflections on the water…like a world within a world…excellent composition :)

  • KevM replied

Thanks, just happened to be a rare still night on the Tyne, right place, right time I think :-)

  • SHEDART

    SHEDART

Great fantastic shot Kev, as i said to DAVID i wish i knew how to take photos like that

  • KevM replied

Thanks James, I wish I knew how to take them too :). I took over a hundred shots that night and probably only got a half dozen usable images, but that’s why I like digital so much. I can snap away and try different techniques without worry, so much easier than painting, especially to your standard :)

  • KevM replied

Oh, and massive thanks for favouriting it too!

  • KevM replied

Thanks, I hadn’t had my camera long when I shot this. I’m hoping my ‘eye’ for shots will improve over time but I’m not sure I’ll get another night like this on the Tyne. I’ts normally windy and raining :-)

THANKS John. This really makes me want to get back out and try more night photography, although I doubt I’ll get the still conditions again :-)
