In the centre of the Cradle Mountain – Lake St. Clair National Park in Tasmania, Australia, is a small lake called Leonard’s Tarn. It is in an absolutley stunning setting surrounded by a rugged cluster of mountains. There are a number of ways to get here, none of them particularly easy. There are no tracks, but there are routes that are obvious when you look at a 1: 25000 map. One would need to allow 3 -4 days each way.
On this occasion we journeyed via Paddys Nut and exited via the valley that leads to Frog Flats.
Once there, there are amazing possibilities for exploring the surrounding mountains using Leonard’s Tarn as a base camp.
