Acrylic on cotton canvas 102cm x 102cm
The original idea was to paint plain white tree trunks against a mad colourful background, but the painting evolved as branches, grasses, one small fern and three slim blue saplings in the foreground added the interest and balance it needed.

I had done a previous painting where the patterned bits were the trees (Tapestry woods – will be uploading it shortly) – it ended up being ambiguous whether the white was the trees or spaces between. I like ambiguity but “Blue trees” was going to be the opposite – ie white trees against the patterned background, but as you say, evolved, and that’s when the process started to be exciting!

    yes I remember this one…instant Fav ! ;-)

  • It certainly evolved from where it started; I couldn’t stop with this one, and luckily it didn’t matter! Thanks, Cary.
