Thud was such a handsome fellow which I had the pleasure of meeting in Colorado in 2007. I had known of Thud prior our meeting as his owner would e-mail me about him.
While in Colorado, I managed to get a series of photos of him — including this one. He died shortly after and I am honored that I was blessed with our meeting — even if only for a short moment.
Although you can’t tell in these photos, Thud suffered from a condition called degenerative myelopathy (DM). He was slowly going paralyzed and although his mind was sharp, his body was not.
100% of sales of any “Thud” item will be donated to the American Chesapeake Club Trust Fund to help fund research for DM and other diseases which affect our canine friends.
Beautiful!! We have a Chesepeake ourselves and we love her! I have some pics of “Jazz” in my artwork. Looking at your shot, I can almost see him flick his ears back like our Jazz does when she’s listening to you! Great shot! Always appreciate pics of Chesepeakes! This is a stunning image of a beautiful canine spirit. I love his name. His name alone and the character and personality in his face makes me curious as to how he got that name. What a beautiful tribute to what I imagine to be a treasured friend/family member to anybody who had the privilege of meeting him.
Hi Angela! Thud was our dog, and he left a huge hole in our hearts. Thud’s registered name was Apache’s Thunderchief. His breeder used alot of Indian names, and we were in aviation, so we named him after his sire, and the F-105 Thunderchief. My husband was reading the book ‘Thud Ridge’ a few weeks before we brought Thud home; the book detailed the exploits of the F-105 pilots in Vietnam. We hoped the pup would grow into the name. And he definitely lived up to it! Thanks to you and the others for your kind comments and especially to Kerrie for taking such memorable photos of our once in a lifetime dog.
