Seeing a Honey Bee collecting nectar is becoming a rare commodity, but this drone fly is a good mimic (it had me fooled for a while). Pollen grains are easily visible covering the fly.

teriffic macro Richard, dof is very good!
Thanks John, I’m still learning with macros (well more so than any other subject).
Great macro, fantastic color. :)
Thanks Beatrice. Macro can be a challenge, because you lose alot of light and have a very narrow depth of field to work with. The key though is the use of a 1:1 macro lens, as they have much more definition than a zoom lens with macro capabilities, so you can see the detail much better. I was lucky that this bee stayed still long enough to get a few shots, unlike the ones in my garden a couple of weeks ago. I still had to crop though so that it wouldn’t be lost.
great bee macro!
Thanks for your comment.
Great macro, dof and colors.
How stunning ! I have tried using macro but cannot get this effect ! It must take ages… I love the colours and the light too
