This is a memorial canvas to celebrate the life of Pat and Jim Wright, many of my viewers will remember that I lost my dad earlier this year to cancer, what many of you wouldn’t know is that the death of my mum at just 56 was the inspiration and motivation for us to move to New Zealand.
This canvas is for my younger brother and sister Andrew and Tracey (and myself) as a reminder of many a happy summer spent at Golden Sands holiday park at Mablethorpe in Lincolnshire in the UK, this was mum and dads favorite spot, and later on when I left and when to art college they moved to Mablethorpe, sadly I only spent a few day at that house on rare visits but I know that it has lots of memories for Andrew and Tracey.
While I was in the UK I discussed with my brother where mum and dad would finally rest, it seemed very fitting that they should have their ashes scattered in the sea at Mablethorpe and return them to happier times.
This gave me a big dilemma, there would be no grave or place to visit, not for me, Tracey and Andrew could visit Mablethorpe but we are all now scattered around and busy lives stop you taking the time to reflect, I wanted something that we each had to remember mum and dad.
I remembered seeing an image on redbubble that to me was the epitome of golden summers and the end of golden summers because only when you live somewhere like mablethorpe out of the season do you see the beach hutts boarded up, I managed to find the image by Rinkydink and some beach scenes, we had a chat and came to an arrangement to use the images which form the background of this canvas, thank you so much Cat for letting us use these images for this memorial canvas.
On a personal note, I was very shocked when mum died at just 56, it affected me for years, three years ago I also had a brush with cancer and spent my Christmas in an arm chair recovering from a bowel cancer op, I decided then that life was too short to put off till tomorrow to do something that you really want to do, next year we are both 50, and its our 25th wedding anniversary and we plan to do something big, we are going to Hawaii (Hawaii Five-O) time to fit in a much as possible, and thats my message to you, “Get on and do it now!” I’m sure my mum had big plans for when they retired but she didn’t get the chance.
If you can’t view the canvas big enough to read the words this is what it says:
MABLETHORPE, Closed for the season, see you all next year!
