Dusky dawn

Hi, Kia Ora from New Zealand, i have recently moved to Papamoa in the Bay of Plenty. I have spent the last thirty years taking photos, I love capturing images, especially ones that only I saw, only I was silly enough to get up at that time to catch the sunrise, photography is a wonderful thing, capture an image and you preserve the moment forever, miss it, and its lost forever.

Hope that you enjoy these images.

When you are getting shots like this – I don’t know how you make yourself leave!

  • That’s simple, the light like this which was around 6 am ten mins after Dusky Dawn shot only lasts for about 15 mins so you have to work quick, i like to see the location the night before to know what i’m doing, the more planning the better.

Your work is wonderful Ken, your seascapes are all so beautiful. However, this one is one of my favourites. It is so extraordinary! Truly, it is one of your best. I am dazzled by the fignette effect, the halo of light appearing in the sky over the horizon. The colours are enchanting. And I love the light, colours and textures of the stones appearing in the foreground as the tide surges in. This is so beautiful!! Congratulations on your wonderful feature in Dimensions

  • Thank you very much Sharon, I had a meeting today with our local gallery and they are going to find me a slot for mid next year.

glad you like it, I nearly passed this one over, the fade of light to the horizon is typical of about ten mins before the sun peaks through, this is the best time for me to deal with the light balance.

this was the first trip that I have used the cokin grad filters, not sure that I’m a 100% happy with the effect, I some times take a separate exposure for the sky, only need one good one, then i can concentrate on the water pattern.

    Ken ;-)
