Thirsty Pronghorn by Kent Keller

Thirsty Pronghorn by

I watched several pronghorn antelope come to this frozen waterhole to drink but all they could do was lick the ice. Soon a group of wild horses arrived and broke the ice open with their powerful hooves. When the horses left the antelope returned to drink – Great Basin Desert, Utah, USA.

And that is exactly why wild horses are good for other wildlife, they break open the ice so all can drink.

  • Thanks Darcy! Until a few days ago Utah was in a record breaking drought and there was no snow for wildlife to eat to get the moisture they must have. The waterholes were frozen but the horses have kept one of them open.
