Barton Springs Revival
Barton Springs in Austin, Texas – 12” x 12” Watercolor on 140#CP Arches. Painted from a photo I took while people watching at Austin’s famous Barton Springs, a natural swimming area fed by aquifers. These two elderly ladies made for a great subject. And the water really is that blue.

Kent, This is a stand-out in a body of exceptional work. The juxtaposition of the platform/figures against the water is outstanding. Do you use masking?
Kent Brewer
Thanks for the very encouraging words, artguez. After looking at your work I really appreciate what you have to say. I did this about 11 years ago so I was trying to recall the masking. I believe I only used some liquid frisket on the railing and highlights in the water (which I may have over done). I took a small break from painting for a while but I’m really enjoying it again lately.

I should say… artquez not artguez

I actually like this a lot: simple yet catchy composition, the dimension is captured very well, it feels like the painting was completed with one breath and projects this summer wormth…
although I would add the legs of the lady with the stick are a litle bit messed up, to thin on the ankles, don’t you think? but it doesn’t spoil the painting
Kent Brewer replied
Thank you for the comments, Magenta. The lady did have very thin ankles but I agree with you that they are a bit thin. Maybe thin ankles is why she needed a stick. :)
