A native Texan, I grew up in Wichita Falls, a place known for tornados, extreme heat, Red Draws, Beanie Burgers, oil, and many years ago, football. After leaving “the Falls” I studied commercial art and advertising in Waco and now I reside in Waxahachie, slowly working my way to living in every Texas town that starts with a W.
I won’t say that I’m a self-taught artist because I feel like all artists are self-taught. No matter how much instruction you get it still comes down to teaching yourself the physical nature of paint, water and paper. Oh, and from failure… lots of failure. Fortunately, no painting is a failure as long as you have taught yourself something from it. I’ve learned a bunch!
Most of my works are watercolor but I have a few pastels here and there. My pen and inks of local architecture are mostly from 2002. I’ve retired the ink for now as I find watercolor to be much more satisfying because of its fast and sloppy nature.
I enter a few shows here and there and participate in the annual “Paint Historic Waxahachie” event in late May.
I prefer to paint “en plein air” (on location) so stop by and say hello if you see me out-and-about.
