Sadly i don’t think that I captured the sheer magic of this location, we were told about a waterfall with a pool full of baby seals, this is a hidden natural nursery for baby New Zealand Fur Seals, only the babies are small enough to swim upstream to the pool.
the location is very dark and I have used a slow shutter speed to get a nice water effect, some of the blurs in the water are not rocks, they are baby seals.
Shot on a Nikon D700 with 17-35mm Nikkor Lens, Cokin ND8 grad turned sideways, dark side in the left, tripod and rock bags.
That’s incredible Ken – it’s fantastic that places like this still exist, and moreso that we can still access them and they haven’t been relocated or the section sealed off due to mistreatment..
Anyway, nice shit I suppose I should say :) I can see it may have been a tricky composition, vut I like the overall contrast of the image, the waters are nice, the right side is nicely contrasted and the rocks keep it interesting. Well done mate.
It is a difficult place to photograph in, but well worth the short walk, isn’t it. The day I went there were no seals at all there, but I filled a card with just the scenery. I love taking photographic field trips to Kaikoura, too. :) Fortunately it’s a day-trip for me. Lovely image, Ken.
