Excellent capture and timing. It actually looks like it’s smelling the flower and holding it gently. ( just before he ate it :-) ) excellent comp and DOF with sharp details and vivid and rich colors. For even a more enhanced comp, consider a crop from the left just to the point of the dark leaf on the bottom.

That has to be the smartest squirrel I’ve ever seen, knowing to stop and smell the flowers. Next you’ll tell he does tricks and other highly intelligent things. Right place at the right time, this is awesome.

Thanks, everyone. This fellow (gal?) is part of a colony or family of fox squirrels living in the wildlife area that is our backyard (perfect photographer zone in the city limits). I didn’t know until a few weeks ago that he’s a fox squirrel. One of my viewers on another site told me that, and when I looked up the information, I found out that fox squirrels eat flowers. So he wasn’t admiring the color or the fragrance, he was thinking of a salad for lunch. However, he didn’t munch on it. I have the whole sequence of him approaching the dandelion, stroking it, and then sitting back down. Using a 300mm fixed lens on my D50, I had to step back a bit to get him in the frame, and even so, I cut off a little. Ken
