Such wonderful light on these goslings, and a wonderful capture. Could I ask what focal length lens you used? Did the geese seem aware of you? I can barely stop myself from drooling all over my keyboard. Pure joy!
Ken Haley replied
Move that keyboard! Just kidding, and thank you for the wonderful compliments. They knew I was there. I was on a path a couple of feet above the water level, and I tried to get a closer-to-their-level shot with the afternoon sun behind them. I used my trusty 300mm fixed f4 Nikon lens. I’m not sure if I had a 1.4X teleconverter on for this shot, I took it off for a few of the shots in order to get better lighting through the lens. There were two adult geese accompanying them, and they swam up and down the short canal as I watched them. They were a little nervous of me, but not alarmed. I saw the sparkle of sunlight beneath one of the adults’ tail, and made sure I got it in the shot.

And you must have used your new-ish D300, too? It all works together beautifully! And of course you do deserve a little credit, too.

They DO look golden don’t they? The sunlight is perfect on their tiny bodies. Lovely capture
