  • Ken Haley replied

Thank you Elizarose. The bee surprised me, too. I didn’t see it when I took the shot.

Incredible Ken. Such a narrow DOF, it’s amazing that the bee is in crisp focus as well as the waxwing. Great title too:)

  • Ken Haley replied

It is unusual to have both objects in focus, considering the long lens I used. I think the bee and the bird were nearly the same distance from the lens. I was aware of a bee in the vicinity when I took the shot, but I wasn’t trying to include it when I snapped.

    BEEEE-u-two-ful! One of my favorites!

  • Ken Haley replied

Oh, yes. It’s one of those birds you have to almost see a photo of to realize how handsome it is. I love the bandido mask. It gives them an air of mystery. They have this air of, like, I’m too cool, man, get away from me!

Lovely shot!! What lens was used here?

  • Ken Haley replied

A Nikon 300mm fixed f4 on a Nikon D300. It’s my everyday lens. I often wish I had a quality zoom, but as long as I can get most of my subject in the viewfinder, I’ll take the 300mm.

NO need to buy another lens if it currently produces stunning images like this!! I mean it.
