Another wonderful shot Ken. This series is one of my favourites! Beautiful composition, colour, and moment!

Thank you! I’m re-working a bunch of these for an art show I’m presenting in June. One of these shots just won a grand prize in a photo contest at the University of Oregon.

Well done Ken!!! I KNEW they were winners as soon as i saw them! Are you presenting them as a series? They are so wonderful and i wish you every success with them!

  • Ken Haley replied

Thank you again, Alex. This session was a real gift to me as observer, it was as if the swallows let me peek for a few moments into their daily world. So the shots that turned out well I am caring for as if they were a collection of gold coins, though not for the monetary consequences, but as gems that I am privileged to be a part of as photographer and designer. I was invited by a major local art gallery to have an exclusive showing for the month of June. I have the license to show all one subject or to make it a variety showing. I will probably limit the show to winged subjects, birds and dragonflies. But the swallows may take up one large section of the wall that I have for the show. I’ll keep you posted of how the show goes. If you happen to be in Oregon in June of this year, come to Springfield for the show!

AMAZING capture…what type of lens did you use for this one?

  • Ken Haley replied

Thank you! I had a 300mm f4 on my Nikon D300 during this shoot. I started to shoot the birds with a 1.4X teleconverter, but took it off after a few minutes. So this was shot just with the 300mm fixed lens. The background is a slow-moving stream. The day was overcast, but lighting was good. I like your work, too. Do you have lots of wildlife opportunities in the Miami area?

Hi Ken---This is a beautiful photo! How you captured the photo at the exact moment of the feeding is amazing; you can see the bug in the little bird’s mouth! Wow! Thank you for sharing! One of my favorites!
