A white stone cross and a black and white lighthouse photographed in symbolic juxtaposition. Both are beacons. Both are navigational aids in a manner of speaking. Both make safe passage possible. Both provide salvation and warn of danger in the midst of life’s storms.
Both are located at Cape Henry, Virginia, north of Virginia Beach. The cross is The First Landing Memorial marking he spot the Jamestown settlers first came ashore after their ocean crossing. And, the lighthouse is the New Cape Henry Light, a metal exterior light that marks both the Virginia Coast and the entrance to the Chesapeake Bay from the Atlantic Ocean.
