Artist's Description

The amazing cliff dwellings of the Anasazi Culture, in what is now Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado, were mysteriously abandoned in the late 13th Century over the span of only a generation or so. Though I have heard several of the theories put forth, I think the extended drought theory is most plausible, as backed by the tree ring record. Balcony House is a fun, ranger-led only tour and highly recommended along with seeing many other dwellings that comprise the archeological wonder that is Mesa Verde!
