Thanks for all the nice comments. Jenny, the bird was aprox 6” long. I was fairly close (1 meter) with a macro lens.

Wow! How did you get so close?

It’s a toy bird hanging from a string…........not really. I use a macro lens and I’m shooting from about 2 feet away using manual focus.. The humming birds I shoot are on their way to a feeder. After observing their flight paths for awhile I park myself on a comfortable chair and set the focus to a point I think a bird will cross. It usually takes the birds a few minutes to get comfortable with me sitting close to their feeder. Of course being very still, comfortable and patient are important. The reason I use manual focus is that the processor on my camera (Nikon D80) is too slow to auto focus these fluttering birds. You might get one decent image from 10 captures but I find it worth the effort. Hope this helps, Ken
