Photography captured my interest during my college years when I was given a Kodak Retina Reflex IV camera (made ca. 1964) with a broken light meter unfortunately, – or maybe it was fortunate since that forced to me learn more about light and exposure and not to rely on anything automatic on the camera. It seems like that was the spark that started my personal need to capture and create images and a lifelong passion for photography.
Ken Hurst Photography is based in Waxahachie, Texas about 30 miles south of Dallas where my wife Sandy and I work together to produce quality stock photos as well as fine art and commercial photography
For rights managed and royalty free stock photos or fine art you can go to my stock archive at http://www.kenhurstphotography.photoshelter.com and the main website at http://kenhurstphotography.com.
Currently I’m a full-time teacher but I am moving gradually moving into photography as a second career. For the last 6 years I have been producing stock images for mostly micro stock agencies (iStockphoto, Shutterstock, Dreamstime, Fotolia, et al) but also Alamy as well as direct sales on my own website at http://www.kenhurstphotography.photoshelter.com. I have also found that magazine editors are interested in photographers who can write a bit (and presumably in writers who can photograph a bit) and I have recently written and had two articles with photos published in major sailing magazines. More info about the articles can be found on my blog. But my primary passions are travel, landscape, nature, wildlife, macro, sailing, and abstract photography – which are not always big sellers in the stock world but make great subjects for art. Hopefully in a year or two I’ll be retired from teaching and my wife and I will launch into a new direction full-time pursuing photography. Part of that plan includes either traveling the US in an RV/motorhome year round or cruising the coastal areas, probably mostly US east coast at first, in a sailboat – then hopefully to other parts of the world as well. Ya gotta dream!
I hope you enjoy my photography!
