JohnScott, 5 months ago
these are cool, do gorillas attract this kind of insect? I’ve never seen one this crisp.
Tiamaria, 5 months ago
Absolutely fabulous! This is wonderful!!!!!!!!!!
Ken Boxsell in reply to JohnScott’s comment, 5 months ago
Hi John. They are gorilla fleas hehehe got hundreds of them. The lack of DOF is caused by the lens MP-E65. It is a fantastic lens. Especially for micro. Although it dosnt seem to matter how far you stop it down there is always a DOF problem. However in this case I think it actually enhances the image. Thanks for the comment.
Ken Boxsell in reply to Tiamaria’s comment, 5 months ago
Thanks heaps Tiamaria. Its always nice to see people enjoying your work.
JohnScott, 5 months ago
man if I was a flea I’d be terrified if I saw this bug in my face!

Thanks MrB. 400D, MP-E65 or EF100mm Macro, 2X 580EX + MR 14EX and a piece of photo paper. I hope that helps mate but by all means send me a Bmail if you need a bit more help. Thanks for the support.
Ken Boxsell in reply to Ellen’s comment, 4 months ago
Thanks Ellen. I have slowed down a little on photo.net due to the common problems associated with the site and of coarse the 3/3 raters trying to make themselves feel better. Anyway I never realy placed too many images on that site but as you may have noticed I am slowly moving some of my more saleable stock over to this site. Thanks Ellen, its always a pleasure
Ken Boxsell in reply to HippyDi’s comment, 4 months ago
Thanks very much HippyDi

Ken, I simply don’t know how you do it but these shots are outstanding. I am still confused though as to how you get the insects indoors and onto the white background!!!! Thanks for your recent feedback on my spider’s web series.

Beautiful shot!! Is this with a lightbox? I am thinking of getting one and a macro lens. I love this kind of work.
Ken Boxsell, 4 months ago
Thanks Janice. No light box mate. Just a piece of paper and 3 flashes. I probably should buy one of those light tents. It might actualy make setting up just a little easier.

Jeepers Creepers, that is closer than close and sharp as a tack where it counts…I really like the effect the dof fall off creates in the wings. Simply outstanding.

Ken Boxsell in reply to Kuulei2you’s comment, 3 months ago
Lol. Thanks very much Kuulie. It has been said that I am ruggedly handsome and carelessly well dressed Lol:-)
Kuulei2you, 3 months ago
I always thought gorillas were cute and still do! Really like looking at your expression! And got to see the bug again. Well did see a dried and vacant dragon fly while going to harvest some anthuriums and look for some bugs to shoot, then got side tracked while in the garden pulling weeds and just walking around and taking photos again, golly so addicted to doing it, I forgot that I was looking for bugs…........:-)
Ken Boxsell in reply to Kuulei2you’s comment, 3 months ago
Nice to hear from again Kuulie. You certainly have an addiction to this bug lol :-) Lucky for me, as Its always a pleasure talking to you. Happy shooting my friend
Kuulei2you, 3 months ago
Ken, Yes, Here I am back at the BUG…...............................................................................
A good addiction at that. Have not had time lately to go out looking for bugs I guess you got um all for now my friend. But not for long! well ,maybe well see :-)

Chapeau Ken
Steve Axford, 2 months ago
Hi Ken. This series is stunning. I use the MP-E as well. What sort of lighting do you use for these?
Ken Boxsell in reply to Yool’s comment, 2 months ago
Thank you so much Yool
Ken Boxsell in reply to Steve Axford’s comment, 2 months ago
Thanks Steve. Depends mate, sometimes the ring flash but usually a couple of 580EX with a wireless trigger
Steve Axford, 2 months ago
How do you get them to stay on the white surface? I use a macro twin light which works really well, but I usually take the insects in-situ as they rarely like being herded.
Ken Boxsell in reply to Steve Axford’s comment, 2 months ago
I know what you mean Steve. Too simplify the answer to your question….....is cold cold mornings. I will give you a Bmail a bit later (just a bit flat out at the moment) with a more detailed answer mate
Steve Axford, 2 months ago
THanks Ken. It will be good to exchange notes with a fellow MP-E user. It is certainly a favourite lens of mine.
