  • Ken Boxsell replied

Thanks very much for the kind words amarica. They certainly go a long way when just one of these insect macro shots may take upward of 4 hours to capture (getting the right moment). Thanks again

    Lesley Smither...

Outstanding macro Ken, I have many of these bugs in my garden on my citrus trees. They are called Bronze Orange Bugs who suck sap from the shoots of citrus plants. Be careful around the adult bugs as they can secrete a corrosive, smelly substance and are able to squirt it at a considerable distance!

  • Ken Boxsell replied

Thanks for the info Lesley. You are absolutely right. They really do emit a toxic smell

  • Ken Boxsell replied

    Mary Campbell

Fantastic Macro shot, and such coloring. I think I saw beatles like this in South Africa, I’m curious where you took it?

  • Ken Boxsell replied

Thanks for the lovely comment Mary. This was taken at Wollongong Australia (South of Sydney). These little critters have series of holes down each side of their body. Its from these holes that they emit a foul smelling odour. Hence the common name “Stink Bug”

  • Mary Campbell

    Mary Campbell

Oh, that explains it. I’ve always heard of stink bugs and thought I might of seen one or two, but nothing this colorful. Again, just a wonderful shot.

I love this one – the colours are quite incredible. He looks like he is resting on his “belly’ with his feet in mid-air. With his eyes on the outside of his antennae and the “nose” between, it looks almost comical. I love the angle you shot this from.

  • Ken Boxsell replied

Thanks heaps Clarkey. Its for the same reasons that I enjoy this image so much. He does look rather funny
