jesika, 2 months ago
This is super. Do you remember where you saw it so you can monitor and hopefully capture the birth?

Ken Boxsell in reply to Krys Bailey’s comment, 2 months ago
Thanks heaps Krys. It was a real pain getting the butterfly to show through. I tried just about every light and angle mentionable.
Ken Boxsell in reply to jesika’s comment, 2 months ago
I was hoping for the same jesika. Unfortunately I was working at the time it emerged but I must of just missed it because it was sitting on a rose bush right next to the chrysalis

Fantastic capture!!

Ken, I know EXACTLY what you mean. Last summer I had masses of pupae to monitor. As soon as I saw the “Twitch” I’d drop everything & just pupa watch. Most of the little sods crawled out if the phone rang or someone came to the door. But I have got a few emerging shots. It was so exciting and I hope to do better this year.

Amazing photo. The lighting is great. It would be lovely to see the butterfly emerging.
Ken Boxsell, 2 months ago
Yes I must admit it was a small disappointment when I missed it but I suppose if it were always easy there would be no real fun. Thanks heaps jacqi

Ken, this is stellar! My daughter and I “raised” monarchs last summer, and were priviledged to witness one emerging. She was so excited that it was hard for her to hold the camera still, but the shots were fantastic! Nothing like seeing them going from egg to butterfly! Your capture is truly wonderful – I would never have thought about lighting it up, or the black background. Thanks for sharing this!
