Garden Beast IV

This little fella made getting a shot nearly impossible as he preferred to jump on my face rather than sit still. After 3 hours shooting I hope you like the image.

Ken!! This is lovely, what a cute grasshopper? Love the face! It’s so funny he kept jumping on you, I love grasshopper feet, they ‘stick’ like crazy… Wonderful work Ken, would you be opposed to me ‘borrowing’ one of your bugs for a collaborative ‘space theme’ picture in the future possibly?

  • Ken Boxsell replied

Thanks very much Zoe. No problem mate. Just Bmail me if you need a high res one

  • Mary Campbell

    Mary Campbell

Oh wow, what a great macro shot. So crystal how do you get them to stand still?

  • Ken Boxsell replied

Thanks Mary. This little guy was very friendly. He reminded me of a cat, constantly cleaning himself. He would quite willingly walk on your hand. So I would continually place him back on the paper and take a few shots in between the times he was chewing his antenna or feet. Certainly a very strange bug.

  • JohnScott

    JohnScott

the little critter was a tourist in the jungle and asked Ken nicely to take the shot! eh mate?

  • Ken Boxsell replied

Funny you say that John thats exactly how it worked. Last night he was on the fly screen, I took him in and shot 193 shots, he then flew onto a plant high up on the fridge. Being so tired I left him there and went to bed. This morning he was on the window, I placed my hand next to him and he climbed on. I took him outside and he was last seen on the mandarin tree.

Heh heh, you should come to my place Ken! I’ve had numerous opportunities to photograph a whole ‘family’ of these little pink-eyed grasshoppers on a small rose bush outside my place. They’ve been there for about 2 months now (they’re like pets) and they stand perfectly still for me and I occationally pick one up. I will put up my photos soon.
Nice photo anyway, colours are fantastic! =)

  • Ken Boxsell replied

I know exactly what you mean Rick…....they are certainly very friendly little creatures. Thanks for the fav mate.
