A wonderfully haunting image, although I’m unsure of the title (has ‘she’ in the middle distance discovered his ‘melancholia’ or depression? Do these Highlands represent melancholia – I’ve always thought they were much more than that..)
Anyway, as you have written in the profile, there’s a reaction!
Kenart replied
You are quite right the highlands a far more than melancolia but you have hit upon a number of what I hope are plural reactions to this image. Thank you for taking the time to consider this.

I am enticed, curious about this image ~ there is such a story to hear in it. I can project my own story onto it ~ am hesitant to do it because of the transparency of my heart ~ but I think it is important for me to say it to you. This image gives a visual representation of my deep desire to set my husband free from his imprisonment of depression, mood swings, etc. The title itself reveals my thinking over the years that if I could just “find” the prison, then I could get him out.
I have learned over the years that he is the only one with the key to the door and daily have to give him over to God and continue to love and encourage him when I can, but I can’t set him free. The broken bars echo my continued faith and hope that this freedom and healing will come for him, The person walking free outside the window reinforces that hope.
That person could represent me walking free, with him looking out from inside the prison, because to a certain extent that is true. But I choose to believe the first interpretation and that he has found his way out and is now walking to meet me on the outside, that we will experience freedom together. Wow – didn’t know all that was in there. Thanks so much Kenart for sharing this with RB and especially with me. Sorry this is so long.

I am glad in a way that this image of mine hit a number of chords with you Lynn. A number of the associations you mention are close to what I intended. I will write to you more fully through BM. Suffice to say thank you for looking and I hope it helped.
