There she is again, her face in a book. She’s always reading, letting the world pass her by. One day she’s going to finish her book and realize that her whole life has flown out the window. Mama agrees, though papa encourages it. He says the world is nothing without a little imagination. I don’t understand. Aren’t I doing good enough? I have Freddy, my boyfriend, and Tommy, my little boy, and mama of course. I never had to stick my head in a book to get those things. I just don’t understand her. But whenever I tell her that she gives me a sad look and says, “You never will.”

Never Will
