Here’s a story for you.
Growing up in Cairns, all I wanted was to be cold. It was hot all year round, with high humidity and a not what you would call ‘winter’. I became interested (read: obsessed) with weather and constantly saw that a spot in Tasmania called Mount Wellington was continually one of the coldest spots in Australia.
In 2005 we had the opportunity to move from the Whitsundays to Hobart – and all I wanted was to live as close to Mt Wellington as possible. And now I do.
Last year during winter I went to the summit of Mt Wellington and on the way up saw a forest of ‘frozen trees’. And that’s how this photo came to exist – standing amongst the trees in a gentle breeze (which in itself is rare on Mt Wellington), with nothing more than the sound of the shutter button and the ice dropping from the trees. Truly a wonderful experience..
Can you tell, I’m getting excited – winter is coming.. and quite possibly the first snowfalls for Mt Wellington since Christmas (yes, it snowed in Tasmania on Christmas Eve and Day!) this week! Hooray!
