I wonder if you have to be Aussie to truly understand this photo, to know exactly how this little Aussie feels?
Australia Day, 2008. 38 degrees – damn hot. My nephew swims. Australia Day is his birthday and this blow-up pool and slide was a gift from his Dad, my brother. This photo takes me back to my own childhood of sweltering summer days spent in a paddle pool on the green lawn of our suburban Perth backyard. Bright red sunburn under a bright blue sky. Memories held so dear. I treasure witnessing my nephew’s memories being made.
Australia Day 2009 was his 4th birthday and today he started Kindy – “a big boy now” and more memories made!
Well it’s snowing like mad here, so all I can say about this is I’m JEALOUS! We are not used to winters anymore. This has come as a shock! The thought of ‘sweltering’ is an alien concept. Cute shot Kelly.
Maybe you’ve been hearing about our heatwave and fires just as we’ve been hearing about your snow falls!! Madness, Denis!! I’m heading south for the weekend to one of Western Australia’s coastal seaside ‘playgrounds’ – I’ll think of you while I’m dipping in the Indian ocean!! :))
