Along Came a Spider

Along Came a Spider

If you don’t already know, I have this weird (at least I’m told) Obsession with arachnids. I think they are one of the most beautiful and amazing creatures. I have been trying and trying to get a good shot of one, but since I don’t have a macro lense yet, it’s been difficult. I used my 4x zoom filters, which usually turn out blurry, but this one turned out great, in my opinion. And the fact that I caught this lovely lady on a white background, with the shadow she cast! What luck! Let me tell you, she did NOT want to pose for me. I had to keep nudging her to get out of the ball she formed. After this shot she just froze for well over an hour. Poor thing, I scared to death!

I believe this gal is a “Barn Spider” ie. Araneus cavaticus

I think this makes such a cool looking card! LOL

Eeeee! I usually run as far away as I can from these creatures, never mind the opportunity to take great shots like this one. No thank you!

  • Karri Klawiter replied

Oh come on! They’re more scared of you! ;) Thanks for stopping by!

Yeah, another spider lover…are you good at IDing them Karri?

    This is awesome!!!

  • Karri Klawiter replied

IDing them? Not so much the various garden and orb weaver speices, I can ID the popular ones, and can sex them. I can usually ID the tarantulas though, had enough of those and kept up on the various species. I had 17 at one time, along with many other animals/insects.

Love for photography has made me do a few things that I normally wouldn’t. But not this. I’ll leave you to be the spider portrait specialist ;-) If one day I ever take a spider pix, I will surely let you know.

  • Karri Klawiter replied

LOL ok, I won’t push them on you, everybody has their limits. :)

Lovely image Karri. I like how the shadow is cast on the simple white background making this artistic, rather than a natural history shot. I tend to be caught up in capturing creatures in the natural habitat and miss the artistic viewpoint that you’ve taken. Pete

Hey CJ, Sorry it took so long, couldn’t find my guide. I believe she is an Araneus cavaticus , commonly known as a Barn Spider.
