This is my entry for the competition described below. It was created using vector drawing tools in Photoshop, and applying some cartoon-drawing skills I have been learning recently.
“Sagmeister is producing a Happy Film that will look at the wellbeing of people around the world. I met Stefan in Oxford and we talked about how RedBubble artists could participate (I love the potential of global art projects).
The project is simple, RedBubble artists are asked to rate themselves on a scale from 1-10 (1 being seriously depressed, 10 being overjoyed) and then create a self-portrait expressing that state. Any artistic medium/technique is allowed. Stefan and team will be animating the best of these results into a sequence.
The works should use this template, including its 16:9 landscape format. (The line of that template does NOT have to be part of the final piece, this is for composition only.)
Stefan will select works to go into the documentary and it is possible that works will also be exhibited in a New York Gallery.
+ Prizes. We will be giving away two signed copies of Sagmeister’s amazing book Made You Look.
So get the crayons, plasticine, canons, cannons out over the next week and then add your work to the challenge.”

Very creative and well done.
Many thanks Lois – do you do vector drawing yourself?
– Keith Richardson
No I don’t do vector drawing – not even sure what all is involved but I do quilt and love this strong use of color and bold effect. You may have inspired me to learn a little about this technique.
Oh, that’s good – feel free to ask me anything you want!
My learning curve with vector drawing is still very steep, as I keep finding more things that I did not know existed, but its power can be intoxicating. So easy to create beautiful looking curves, simply by bending straight lines, and moving them until you are happy with the result. Keith

Thanks for your offer of answering my questions Keith – I am sure you will be hearing from me just as soon as I learn enough to ask questions.
My pleasure Lois – just waiting for your call…
