In June 2013 an exciting astronomical event occurred – the elliptical moon orbit brought the full moon to its closest point to Earth. This is called a “Super Moon”. I was in Ubud, Bali when this occurred, and managed to capture it with time lapse photography at around 4am. On the left is the full moon in its splendor against the blackened sky. In the centre, lit only by the ambient moon overhead, are flooded rice fields. On the right is the reflection of the setting super moon in the flooded field, emerging newly-planted rice seedlings visible surrounded by circles of disturbance created by nocturnal insects. Truly a magical experience!
