Australian Bush Stone-Curlew
BEST LARGE
Bush Stone-Kurlew (Burhinus grallarius)
This well camouflaged bird, relying on camouflage, remained still as I slowly approached to take this telephoto shot. It lives in grassy woodland, almost invisible as it stands amongst fallen timber. If threatened it creeps away at a low crouch. Laid in a scrape in the ground, its eggs look like the many small stones lying nearby. I was delighted with this shot. This bird lives in a nature reserve at Healesville, in Victoria, Australia. The Bush Stone-Curlew is rapidly disappearing from settled areas. Keith

Beautiful capture of this stunning bird, a lot like ours in the UK but much larger. Fantastic shot

I agree with hilary. How high is this bird?
Keith Richardson replied
Thank you Heike! The Austrakian Bush Stone Curlew stands about 30 cms (1 foot) high as an adult, so they are quite large. Regards, Keith.
