One of the most special memories I carry from my time so far in Central Australia was my time working for Desert Tracks (an Anangu owned tour company). We conducted camping trips into the AP Lands of South Australia for school groups. Along the way, we would stay at various campsites and meet with Anangu staff and their families. I was honoured to be part of such an incredible cultural learning experience.
Jarrod and his family were part of the mob from Amata and Angatja who worked for Desert Tracks. This image was captured on my first trip to the area in 2005. On this particular day, we were learning about Ngintaka Tjukurpa (the Perentie Lizard belief and law story) and following the journey of Ngintaka through the incredible landscape of north-western South Australia. Whilst waiting for lunch to cook (under a kurkara or desert oak tree) Jarrod and I were learning how to use my new camera. He took a photo of me… and I took a photo of him. One day I hope to return to this area, to catch up with Jarrod and his family.
I am fortunate enough to have captured hundreds of amazing images from my adventures in the AP Lands. But as these images were captured in the capacity of trusted friend, I do not wish to offer these particular images for sale.
