Goin’ Home
An old seafarer’s song of farewell… sung to the hauntingly beautiful tune of ‘Largo’ (Second Movement of Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 – “From the New World”). It was an honour to sing this (as part of the Gold Coast City Choir) at two recent Anzac Day ceremonies (during the laying of the wreaths). When I captured this image at Redcliffe a week ago, it seemed to fit perfectly together with the song.
Going home. Going home. I’m a-going home.
Quiet-like some still day, I’m just going home.
It’s not far, just close by, through an open door.
Work all done, cares laid by, Going to roam no more;
Mother’s there expecting me, Father’s waiting, too.
Lot’s of folks gathered there. All the friends I knew.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Morning star lights the way, restless dream all done.
Shadows gone, break of day, real life just begun.
There’s no break, there’s no end, just a-living on;
Wide awake, with a smile, going on and on.
Going home. Going home, I’m just going home.
It’s not far, just close by, through an open door.
Thank-you Tracey Mac, for your terrific feedback. It was a most spectacular and stormy sunrise over Moreton Bay. And it is indeed a beautiful song too :-)
Beautiful and emotive photograph Keiran – I can somehow feel the emotion of Anzac Day within the ripples of this image! Don’t know the tune but the words are lovely. Were you singing at Redcliffe with the GCCChoir? (you must be able to sing well!!)
Thank-you Vicki. Maybe you might recognise the tune? Nah, the Gold Coast City Choir performed at Robina and Surfers on Anzac Day. It was an emotional day of singing.
Need to get my eyes checked Keiran – or my brain serviced…. 2 weeks ago was not the end of April. CRAFT disease has descended upon me…. sorry!
Ah yes… as a fellow long-term sufferer of CRAFT disease, I completely understand! Heheheh.
That music is hauntingly beautiful and is so appropriate for ANZAC day – thanks for the link, Keiran. It would have been great to hear on the day, it is difficult for me to imagine with the words but it would have been amazing, I am sure!
No worries Vicki. Yeah, it did seem like a very appropriate song for ANZAC Day. I was honoured to be a part of the choir :-)
